Position
Staff Accountant

Summary
An established Japanese company is seeking a Staff Accountant to support their accounting team with daily operations, including bookkeeping, accounts payable and receivable, monthly and year-end closing, financial reporting, audit preparation, and other related tasks as assigned. The scope of the tasks is not limited to the company but various companies that the company makes investment to. This position will also assist in coordinating with external counterparties, such as investment partners, external accounting and tax firms, and auditors, as needed. While fluency in Japanese is a plus, it is not required.

Essential Duties

Accounts Payable and Receivable

• Conduct a thorough review and processing of payment and cash transfer requests, ensuring compliance with internal controls, accurate documentation, and proper approval before execution.
• Methodically record all invoices, payments, and journal entries into the accounting system, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of financial data in accordance with accounting standards and internal procedures.
• Perform detailed reconciliations of bank account balances, addressing any discrepancies promptly, and continuously monitor the status of accounts payable and receivable to ensure the accuracy of financial statements and optimize cash flow management.
• Diligently verify employee expense reimbursement submissions for accuracy, adherence to company policies, and proper documentation, ensuring accurate and timely entry into the accounting system and the efficient processing of ACH payments for reimbursement.

​​​​​​​ACCOUNTING

• Support senior team members with the closing of monthly financial process and the preparation of consolidated financial statements.
• Analyze financial reports for SPCs prepared by investment partners, request necessary clarifications, and recommend adjustments as appropriate.
• Record and post accounting entries into the financial system, including cash transfers, invoices, payments, receipts, expenses, payroll, and SPC-related transactions.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams and external parties to ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
• Act as liaison for auditors, ensuring the efficient execution of the audit process.
• Support the reconciliation and processing of debit/credit card transactions and statements, ensuring the integrity of financial records.
• Contribute to the enhancement of accounting procedures by identifying areas for process optimization and facilitating the implementation of improvements.
• Undertake additional administrative responsibilities as assigned by Management, or other departments, demonstrating flexibility and attention to detail in supporting organizational needs.

Tax and Reports / Finance

• Provide comprehensive support in coordinating with external tax accountants to ensure the accurate preparation and timely submission of tax-related reports, maintaining compliance with relevant tax regulations.
• Assist in the tracking and monitoring of tax filing statuses, proactively liaising with tax authorities as required to address inquiries or resolve any issues that may arise during the filing process.
• Contribute to the daily monitoring of cash flow for the organization, ensuring liquidity for operational needs, and collaborate effectively with other departments to ensure financial requirements are met in a timely and efficient manner.

OTHER & MISCELLANEOUS

• Provide support in the management and maintenance of the company’s fixed asset and inventory records, ensuring accurate tracking, proper valuation, and compliance with relevant accounting standards.
• Develop proficiency in utilizing the company’s approval system database and accounting software, ensuring efficient data management and smooth integration with accounting and operational processes.
• Handle additional administrative tasks as requested by the VP, AVP and other departments.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting or finance from four-year College or university.
• At least one year of office experience or equivalent preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; including proficiency in data analysis, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, complex formulas, macros, and data visualization techniques experience with accounting software is a plus.
• Basic understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting principles.
• Knowledge of internal controls and accounting practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with team members and other departments.
• Familiarity with U.S. taxation is a plus.
• Ability to manage tasks independently and as part of a team.
• Business-level proficiency in English.
