Project Manager – Project Logistics (PLD Division)

Summary
The Project Manager – PLD Division is responsible for leading and executing complex domestic and international project logistics operations involving oversized, heavy lift, and specialized cargo. Based in Houston, TX, this role serves as a subject matter expert across all project logistics transportation modes, including heavy lift vessels, heavy haul trucking, barge, rail, and crane & rigging operations.

This position requires strong technical logistics expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. The Project Manager plays a critical role in customer RFQs, supplier procurement, cost management, and execution strategy, while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and customer satisfaction.

Essential Duties

• Lead and execute domestic and international project logistics operations across all modes, including heavy lift vessels, heavy haul trucking, barge, and rail, ensuring safe, on-time, and cost-effective delivery.
• Manage end-to-end project planning, scheduling, budgeting, execution, and risk management for project cargo and spot load movements.
• Lead customer RFQs and supplier RFP/RFQ processes, including pricing strategy, technical evaluation, and commercial negotiations.
• Develop and maintain strategic relationships with logistics partners such as ocean carriers, heavy haul providers, crane & rigging companies, barge operators, and rail providers.
• Authorize carrier instructions related to expedites, routing changes, and shipment adjustments, and approve applicable charges in accordance with company policy.
• Develop project logistics plans, route strategies, and shipment schedules, maintaining accurate tracking, reporting, and documentation.
• Monitor project costs and prepare shipment- or project-level P&L summaries aligned with financial targets.
• Analyze operational and shipment data, communicate trends, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
• Travel domestically as required to support project execution, including site visits, ports, and supplier meetings.

 

Working Hours & Style

• Monday to Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm
• Hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 days remote)

Qualifications

Education:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred (4-year college degree)

Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of transportation administration and operations experience, with direct experience in project logistics preferred.
• Hands-on experience with heavy haul, barge, rail, and/or crane & rigging operations strongly preferred.

Technical Knowledge:

• Significant knowledge of heavy haul transportation, over-dimensional rail, barge operations, and port logistics.
• Strong understanding of international and domestic project cargo execution.

Skills & Competencies:

• Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.
• Ability to present information clearly to colleagues, clients, and partners.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.

Software Proficiency:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Comfortable working with logistics systems and reporting tools.

Additional Requirements:

• Ability to travel as required by project demands.
• Must have, or be able to obtain, a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential).
• Must qualify for a Federal Background Check.
