Position  
U.S. Customs Broker (Licensed)

Summary
The Customs Broker is responsible for the timely and accurate clearance of international shipments into the United States. The ideal candidate will have an active US Customs Broker license and a deep understanding of CBP regulations. This role involves managing the full customs entry process, ensuring compliance, and providing exceptional service to clients while upholding Nankai's commitment to reliability and efficiency

Essential Duties

• ​​​​​​​Customs clearance:Manage the complete customs clearance process for import shipments, including preparing and filing customs entries via the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) system and other platforms.
• Compliance: Ensure compliance with all US federal regulations from agencies such as CBP, FDA, USDA, and EPA. Respond to and resolve customs issues, such as CF28 and CF29 requests, in a timely manner.
• Classification and valuation: Accurately classify imported goods using the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) and correctly determine customs valuation to assess appropriate duties, taxes, and fees.
• Communication and coordination: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and overseas agents regarding customs-related inquiries and discrepancies. Coordinate with internal teams, carriers, and government agencies to facilitate the smooth movement of goods.
• Documentation: Review and audit commercial documents, such as invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin, to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Advisory services: Advise clients on import restrictions, quota limits, duty drawbacks, and other customs procedures. Inform clients of options to reduce duties and taxes.
• Operational efficiency: Collaborate with the freight forwarding team to streamline processes and ensure seamless end-to-end logistics operations, from pre-alert to final delivery.
• Continuous improvement: Stay up-to-date with changes in customs regulations and international trade laws to maintain a high level of expertise. Identify opportunities for process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

• ​​​​​​​Licensed: Must possess an active US Customs Broker License issued by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
• Experience: Proven experience in customs brokerage or a related field within an international freight forwarding environment is strongly preferred. Experience with shipments to and from Japan is a plus.
• Technical skills: Proficiency with customs brokerage software and systems, including the ACE portal, as well as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Knowledge: Strong understanding of customs regulations, international trade agreements, HTSUS classification, and Incoterms.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively liaise with clients, government officials, and overseas partners.
• Attention to detail: Meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all documentation and processes.
• Problem-solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to customs clearance and logistics.
• Adaptability: Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
