Manager, Clinical & Market Development (Retina)

Summary

We are seeking a high-caliber Manager to lead the US market entry and launch of single-use vitreoretinal forceps. This role is pivotal in building the US retina market from the ground up. Rather than relying on established brand recognition, the successful candidate will drive success through KOL engagement, the creation of compelling clinical narratives, and strategic distributor partnerships.

Essential Duties

  • KOL & Clinical Engagement: Identify and build relationships with key opinion leaders (Universities/High-volume facilities). Support initial evaluations, wet labs, and hands-on sessions to convert bench data into clinical value.
  • Market Development: Define specific winning use cases (e.g., ILM/ERM peeling) and build persuasive clinical stories even with limited data. Plan and execute workshops and small-scale meetings at major conferences (ASRS, AAO, etc.).
  • Distributor Support: Assist executive leadership in selecting and onboarding US distributors. Provide product training, positioning guidance, and serve as the clinical/technical point of contact for initial partners.
  • Internal Collaboration: Deliver market and surgeon feedback to HQ (R&D, Marketing, Management). Support the refinement of training materials, sales collateral, and investor pitch decks.
  • Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to industry regulations and company standards regarding clinical interactions and data handling.

Working Hours, Working style

  • Working Hours: Monday to Friday (Full-time).
  • Working Style: On-site (Hybrid negotiable; min 1 day in-office per week)
  • Working Location: Torrance, CA

Salary/Benefit

  • Salary: $120K – $150K per year 
  • Benefits: Milestone-based bonus structure. Comprehensive benefits package provided upon full-time regular employment.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Biomedical Sciences, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: 5–8 years of professional experience in the ophthalmic medical device industry, specifically within the vitreoretinal space and disposable surgical instruments.
  • Language: Japanese-English Bilingual (Highly preferred, but not required)
  • Skills: Advanced communication skills with retina specialists; ability to conduct wet labs/surgical training; strong proactive mindset to operate in unstructured environments.
  • Other: Deep understanding of the US distributor business model. Experience in new product/market launches is a plus.
