Customs Compliance Manager

Summary

The Customs Compliance Manager is responsible for ensuring all import activities comply with U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regulations and other government agency requirements. This role oversees customs entry processes and compliance programs, requiring a strong understanding of tariff classifications and trade compliance strategies.

The company is an asset-based third-party logistics (3PL) provider of freight and transportation logistics, outsourcing solutions, and information services. As a subsidiary of a major global corporation, the company utilizes an extensive network of 66,000 transportation providers worldwide to help businesses optimize the management of shipped goods. Essential Duties

• Compliance Oversight: Oversee and manage all customs compliance operations, including entry processing, duty payments, and auditing customs entries for accuracy.

• Regulatory Submissions: Prepare and submit Post Summary Corrections (PSCs) and protests; oversee Importer Security Filing (ISF) submissions.

• Tariff Management: Maintain compliance with Section 232 tariffs, provisional tariffs, reciprocal tariffs, and exclusion tariffs.

• Systems Management: Utilize the ACE Portal for reporting and optimize processes within CargoWise for customs brokerage operations.

• Specialized Entries: Manage Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) entries and consumption entries.

• Agency Coordination: Coordinate with Partner Government Agencies (PGAs) for various regulatory requirements.

• Leadership: Lead and develop a team of customs compliance professionals, providing training and performance management.

Working Hours, Working Style

• Schedule: 8:30 am – 4:30 pm (including a 1-hour lunch), totaling a 35-hour work week.

• Working Style: Hybrid model (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

• Team Dynamics: A small, 5-person office that requires a responsive, quick learner who can pivot between competing priorities. The role involves frequent interaction with a remote Assistant Manager and a brokerage team based in California.

Salary/Benefit

• Salary: $80,000 per year (Exempt status).

Qualifications

• Licensing: Must hold an active U.S. Customs Brokerage License.

• Technical Skills: Must have experience with CargoWise (specifically Customs modules). Proficiency in ACE Portal reporting and Microsoft Office Suite is required.

• Experience: * Minimum 5 years of experience in entry writing, including FTZ and consumption entries.

  • Minimum 5 years of management experience in customs compliance or brokerage operations.

• Education: High School Diploma or GED required; Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or International Trade preferred.

• Preferred Attributes: Candidates who can navigate a Japanese corporate culture while reporting to an American manager. A calm demeanor, sense of humor, and high level of organizational skill are essential.
