General Manager

Summary
A Japanese logistics company specializing in air freight forwarding for major automotive suppliers is seeking an experienced and hands-on General Manager to oversee operations at its Midwest headquarters. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in air cargo (both import and export), leadership experience in a multicultural team environment, and the ability to drive operational efficiency and business growth across multiple branch locations.

Essential Duties

• Lead and manage approximately 40 employees across 8 branch locations in the United States

• Oversee daily operations including air import/export, customer service, and quality control

• Develop and implement operational strategies to enhance efficiency, profitability, and customer satisfaction

• Supervise regional managers, branch managers, and officers in sales, operations, quality, and accounting

• Foster collaboration between U.S. offices and Japan headquarters to ensure business alignment

• Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients, particularly within the automotive industry

• Monitor financial performance, budgets, and key performance indicators (KPIs)

• Conduct training, evaluation, and talent development programs for team members

• Represent the company in external meetings and maintain a professional corporate image

Working Hours, Working Style

• Full-time, exempt position

• Standard working hours: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM

• Business travel required (domestic, occasional trips to Japan HQ)

• Office-based position (no remote/hybrid arrangement)

Salary / Benefit

• Annual salary: $75,000–$85,000 (depending on experience)

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field

• Minimum 10 years of logistics or freight forwarding experience, including at least 5 years in a management role

• Proven expertise in air freight forwarding (import/export) operations

• Strong leadership and team management abilities

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Bilingual English/Japanese preferred, but not required

• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
