Position
Technical Lead Software Engineering

Summary
​​​​​​Seeking a visionary and hands-on Technical Lead to drive the company data integration and analytics strategy. This role requires deep expertise in data warehousing, API integration, ingestion pipelines, observability, and security, with a strong focus on multi-system integration, scalability, and success metrics planning. The ideal candidate will be bilingual, experienced with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and AWS, and capable of leading teams distributed teams across time zones in an Agile environment to build robust, future-ready data platforms

Essential Duties

• Lead a distributed engineering team to deliver secure, scalable applications supporting centralized operations.
• Oversee the development of React and Node.js microservices, ensuring alignment with enterprise data governance and system-of-record requirements.
• Ensure timely delivery aligned with sprint and release cadences, maintaining high standards ofcode quality, performance, and reliability.
• Promote cloud-agnostic strategies, with a strong emphasis on AWS and understanding of GCP asthe preferred platform for deployment and scalability.
• Collaborate with product managers, data stewards, and business stakeholders to define technical requirements and delivery timelines.
• Guide engineers in building secure, maintainable, and observable systems, with a focus oncentralized data workflows.
• Proactively identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Ensure compliance with enterprise architecture standards, data privacy regulations, and governance policies
• Lead the architecture and implementation of scalable, secure, and high-throughput data pipelines.
• Mentor and guide engineering teams in best practices for data integration, observability, and cloud-native development.
• Act as the primary technical point of contact for integration projects across multiple systems.
• Design and maintain ingestion pipelines using APIs, file transfers, and streaming platforms (e.g.,Kafka, Pub/Sub).
• Build and optimize data warehouses (e.g., BigQuery) to support analytics and reporting.
• Implement and evolve observability frameworks (logging, metrics, tracing) using tools like new Relic, Grafana.
• Proactively define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and system health metrics.
• Guide teams to embed meaningful metrics into all services to support proactive planning and continuous improvement.
• Ensure all necessary data is captured to define and measure success metrics across projects.
• Design and enforce security mechanisms including encryption, IAM, and audit logging.
• Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA) and internal governance policies.
• Architect solutions that scale from small-scale prototypes to large-scale production systems.
• Optimize system performance, throughput, and cost-efficiency across environments.
• Coordinate effectively across multiple time zones and locations, ensuring smooth collaboration and communication.
• Lead Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and retrospectives for distributed teams.
• Foster a culture of accountability, transparency, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• ​​​Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.
•  5+ years of experience in software engineering, with 2+ years in a technical leadership role.
•  Proven experience with:

            -Integrating multiple systems and managing complex data flows.
            -Strong experience with AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services: BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Functions, IAM, etc.
           -React, Node.js for enterprise web development PostgreSQL, MongoDB, GraphQL,  Elasticsearch, WebSocket, and Kafka (MSK).
           -Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-agnostic deployment strategies

•  Strong understanding of performance tuning, scalability, and system design in a retail or enterprise context.
•  Strong understanding of API design, contract-first development, and integration testing.
•  Experience with observability tools and practices.
•  Excellent troubleshooting and incident management skills.
•  Experience managing distributed teams across multiple time zone and locations working in Agile environments.
• Must be fluent in Japanese and English

Preferred Qualifications:

•  Proven experience guiding cross-functional teams in the development of web application
•  Strong understanding of frontend/backend architecture, performance optimization, and responsive design.
•  Experience managing full application lifecycles—from planning and development to deployment and post-release support.
•  Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments with a focus on iterative delivery and continuous improvement.
•  Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and DevOps practices.
•  Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and foster a high-performance engineering culture.
•  Excellent communication and collaboration skills across product, design, and business teams.
