Job Description

Position: Logistics Claims Counsel

Summary: A global logistics company is seeking a highly skilled Claims Counsel to provide legal advice and expertise regarding logistics claims, disputes, and insurance issues. The role involves resolving claims related to warehouse operations and transportation, including handling claims with insurance carriers, developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs) for claims processes, and collaborating with other business stakeholders.

Essential Duties:

1. Claims Management and Legal Support:

   • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents relating to logistics claims.
   • Communicate with relevant internal stakeholders and external parties such as insurance brokers, carriers, third-party administrators, and legal counsel.
   • Provide interpretation and explanation of applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures related to claims.
   • Analyze collected data to determine claim validity, coverage, and liability.

2. Legal Advice and Reporting:

   • Provide legal advice to internal clients for resolving claims and complaints.
   • Identify legislative and regulatory changes and recommend appropriate actions.
   • Develop and distribute key reports and analyses, including claim reports and ad hoc reports for management.
   • Promote legal compliance and best practices across the organization.
   • Deliver training and materials to the business on key legal areas related to claims.

3. Contractual and Claims Resolution:

   • Review, analyze, and negotiate contractual agreements with customers, shippers, consignees, or carriers in accordance with company guidelines.
   • Coordinate with external claims adjusters (e.g., cargo/freight forwarders, insurance carriers) to resolve claims issues.
   • Assist in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for logistics processes and claims.
   • Develop and implement claims litigation strategies, including settlements and insurance coverage limits.

4. Dispute Resolution:

   • Work toward the resolution of claims files and attend arbitrations, mediations, or trials as necessary.
   • Perform other duties as assigned to support the company's claims management function.

Working Hours, Working Style:

• Hybrid position: work from home (WFH) and onsite at the Texas or California office (minimum 3 days per week).
• Full-time, exempt role requiring flexibility and the ability to manage multiple tasks with high urgency.

Working Location:

• Plano, TX  or Santa Fe Springs, CA 

Salary/Benefit:

• Salary Range: $140,000 ~ $180,000 per year, with the potential for higher compensation depending on experience.
• Annual bonus eligibility up to 10%.

Qualifications:

• Active member of Texas or California bar license in good standing.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant legal experience, particularly in transportation, warehouse, maritime claims, disputes, and insurance.
• Ability to produce reports to support findings and analyses.
• Extremely organized, detail-oriented, and able to handle multiple tasks.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to explain complex issues clearly.
• Ability to multitask and collaborate across time zones with a high sense of urgency.
• Self-motivated, assertive, and able to work independently and in a team environment.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based claims platforms.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to travel up to 10% throughout the U.S.
