Position
Bilingual Sales specialist (Japanese and English) 
Summary
This position will assist in the development of sales and marketing initiatives. It is responsible for the expansion of sales and new market development. This position will manage key customers including price negotiation and business expansion. The position will assist in the execution of business goals, action plans and objectives while supporting the mission of Meriden America, Inc. This position will regularly utilize their bi-lingual Japanese and English skills in the coordination of the above activities.​​​​​​​
Essential Duties
​​​​​​​•    Develops and implements sales and marketing goals and objectives.
•    Maintains current knowledge of market and industry trends for automotive interior parts as well as the research of new markets.
•    Identifies, develops, and manages relationships with customers in coordination with other department personnel.
•    Ensures customer account management and service, and provides appropriate and timely responses to customers regarding product information or other issues.
•    Manages current product lines and the development of new product opportunities with new and existing customers and negotiates pricing.
•    Executes departmental activities with respect to:
o    the best manufacturing procedure and procurement route for new products;
o    trial tests on new products;
o    production of new products (in conjunction with the customer);
o    new market routes for new products;
o    works with engineering and production to develop alternative materials and production methods to continually reduce cost.
o    follow-up on progress of newly developed products.

•    Plans schedules for development projects, in conjunction with purchasing, production, and materials staff.
•    Coordinates new product introductions with other MAI staff.
•    Assists in the development of annual department budget.
•    Utilizes multifunctional marketing tools such as social media, and online bidding.
•    Participates in local networking to expand business opportunities and relationships.
•    Ensures the accuracy of computer data and systems, as related to Sales functions.
•    Assists in the training of other sales staff
•    Completes special assignments as requested.

Qualifications
​​​​​​​•    Four year degree in related field.
•    5+ years previous sales/purchasing experience, including supervision and/or management.
•    Experience in Japanese automotive sales or materials product development in the OEM automotive industry a plus.
•    Excellent planning, organization, leadership, presentation, decision making, analytical, and oral and written communication skills.
•    Ability to effectively create and maintain a teamwork environment.
•    Strong computer and math skills.
•    Ability to read basic blueprints
•    Understanding of traditional Japanese business practices and culture (in order to establish and maintain positive working relationships with customers) a plus.
•    Specific technical know-how of automotive interior fabrics and leathers: physical properties, application for OEM product, customer specifications, design, and development a plus.
•    Experience in manufacturing or distribution.
•    Able to travel in the United States and abroad.
•    Must be fluent in both English and Japanese
