Position
Application Engineer (SEM Metrology)

Summary
A Japanese machinery company is looking for a dedicated Application Engineer to join our US team. This role serves as a technical bridge for their advanced SEM metrology systems, working directly with major semiconductor manufacturers. You will not only support existing installations but also demonstrate our latest technologies to solve the customer's most critical R&D and production challenges.
The company offers a comprehensive training program, including 6+ months of on-site mentorship by senior engineers and periodic technical training at our Headquarters in Japan. This position is scheduled to start in April 2026, making it an ideal opportunity for candidates planning their next career move strategically.

Essential Duties

• ​​​​​​​Customer Support &Solutions: Collaborate with customers to identify process control challenges and propose technical solutions using our SEM metrology tools.
• Demonstration &Optimization: Demonstrate the capabilities of the latest tool functions and optimize measurement recipes for various semiconductor processes (R&D to HVM).
• Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to verify tool performance and process stability, reporting findings to customers and internal teams.
• Reporting &Communication: Conduct regular progress review meetings with customers and report field technical status to Headquarters. Prepare and deliver professional presentations to summarize evaluation results and project milestones.
• Training: Conduct technical training for customers on tool operation, recipe creation, and data interpretation.
• Troubleshooting: Primary focus on software/application troubleshooting. (Ability to assist with hardware diagnosis is a plus).

09:00-18:00,  ​​​​​​​Full-time

Working Location
​​​​​​​Boise, ID
​​​​​​​Occasional travel between Boise and Phoenix may be required (low frequency).
​​​​​​​Periodic travel to Japan Headquarters for advanced training (approx. once every 2-3 years).

Salary/Benefit
​​​​​​​$80,000 - $120,000 / year

Holidays
​​​​​​​Saturdays, Sundays and Company-designated holidays.

Qualifications
​​​​​​​[Must Have]

• Industry Experience: Experience in semiconductor front-end equipment or manufacturing processes.
• Legal: Valid work authorization in the United States.

[Preferred] 

• ​​​​​​​Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of semiconductor device fabrication, metrology concepts, and image processing.
• Operational Discipline: Meticulous attention to detail and a cautious approach to operating equipment and handling data.
• Data Analysis Skills: Experience with data analytics tools such as Excel, Spotfire, JMP, or R for handling high-volume metrology data.
• Layout Data Skills: Experience handling design layout data formats such as GDS or OASIS.
• Coding Skills: Basic scripting capability (e.g., Python, macro scripts) to automate data handling or recipe generation.
• Hardware Knowledge: Basic understanding of SEM hardware or vacuum systems.
• Cultural Fit: Familiarity with Japanese business culture or experience working with international teams.
